The ACHMM India chapter was established in 2006 at Department of Civil Engineering BIT. The objective was to develop networking with academia, industries, practicing consultants & professional institutions. The chapter initiated the Three day instruction course on Hazardous Materials Management, followed by National Seminars, workshops and training programs in BIT, PESIT-Bangalore, Environment Planning and Coordination Organization Bhopal, National Institute of Advanced Studies-Bangalore, Manipal Institute of Technology-Manipal, and program on Principles, Practices and Hazards of Bio Medical Waste Management in association with ISHWM-New Delhi, Sandeep University- Nashik, RVCE-Bangalore and University College of Engineering-Bangalore, AMC Engineering College, Visvevaraya Technological University Belgaum, Alva Institute of Technology, Moodubidre, and many more. During all these programs ACHMM India chapter BIT branding was carried forward.
Chapter members have actively participated and presented technical papers, case studies in the AHMP annual conferences held in different geographical locations of USA. Indian delegation was part of chapter development committee meetings and co-ordinated with plenary sessions.
Chapter has received ‘CHAPTER MILESTONE AWARD – TEN YEARS’ in recognition of the contributions that had an exceptional impact on Alliance of Hazardous Materials Professionals 2016 for successfully completing ten years.
Chapter has facilitiated students of civil and environmental engineering to conduct projects on ambient air quality monitoring in Bangalore International Airport, Measurement of Noise levels in Devasandra Industrial Area, Brigade developers project site, performance study of BWSSB sewage treatment plant, Hebbal and many more. The chapter has coordinated to obtain permission from industries different industries for student visits, permission from BWSSB for student visits to Torekadanahally Water treatment Plant, Vrushabhavathi Valley Tertiary Sewage Treatment plant, etc.,
The chapter has established good networking with industries and to name few BIOCON, HIKAL Pharma, VOLVO, TOYOTA KIRLOSKAR, Karnataka State Pollution Control Board, Department of Factories & Boilers Government of Karnataka, and many more industries. Students of Bangalore institute of Technology a have successfully completed their project works and intern programs in these institutions.
The chapter has funded few civil engineering student projects on defluoridation of drinking water, color and COD reduction from textile dye effluents etc., Community Water supply project Hassan in association with Abel Engineering consultants Bangalore, ETC.,

The chapter has extended financial support towards registration fee for all the faculty members of civil engineering who have presented technical papers in USA in national AHMP conference till date.
It has facilitated BIT in getting recognised as the host institution for Fulbright scholars under Jawaharlal Nehru Indo US Fulbright scholar exchange program.
Dr. Adriane Borgias worked on developoing compendium on Hazardous Materials Management in the year 2009
Dr. Rampur S Viswanath worked on measurement and fingerprinting of volatile organic compounds in the year 2016

Faculty members of civil engineering facilitated Fulbright scholars to get registered in Foreigners Regional Registration Office, Bangalore
Members of ACHMM India Chapter were nominated to State level Environmental Appraisal Commitee Environment Impact Assessment Authority and had continuous opportunity to interact with the government and environment regulatory agencies.
Dr. B. S. Jaiprakash, Vice President of the chapter has guided several scholars to successfully complete their Ph.d., program. All the research scholars are well placed in India and abroad.
True to the spirit of International Ambassador and Pete Cook Awardee, AHMP, of the Chapter Dr. R. S. Viswanath has co-ordinated to successfully bring more than 15 International delegations to India to conduct seminars, workshops and conferences for all the programs organized and conducted by ACHMM India Chapter. It is placed on record that all the delegations that visited India from 2006 till date travelled at their own cost.
The Chapter has been regularly organising local trips in Karnataka and outside for the International delegation to share the glimpse of India and Indian tradition & culture. The delegation has expressed their gratitude.
Patrons Office bearers, universities and professional colleges have extended the financial and logistics support whole heartedly to conduct the program in their institutions.
The chapter in association with the industries, regulators and academia has developed course content containing 50 training modules on hazardous materials management . The chapter has also developed course content for Industrial Safety and Occupational Health and the chapter looks forward for a host institution.
The chapter acknowledges all the resources provided by the management of Bangalore Institute Technology for nourishing ACHMM India chapter from the day of inception till date . The chapter looks forward for continuous association.
